Your Arizona Dream Home

Home ownership is the quintessential goal of many families. It evokes deep seated images of hearth and home that has long been a key milestone in both personal economic development, and the achievement of a strong family life.

It’s certainly the largest investment most families ever make. You evaluate many criteria and agonize over key decisions when you seek your new home; location, area schools, price, mortgage products, and of course, quality. Signing that first thirty-year mortgage note is enough to make anyone stop and think. You want to make the right choice. You carefully check out qualifications of the builder as well, right? How does the average consumer conscientiously select a quality home? How does someone not related to the construction industry see beyond the developer’s marketing and advertising to rigorously select a quality home?

Aesthetics often play a role. Are you pleased with the design of the home, the color schemes, the layout and number of rooms? You carefully check the quality of the fixtures, paint and trim to see that all is well. These are things you can see with your eyes, run your hand over to check for smoothness of finish, tactile and palpable signs that all is well. The things you can see are important but the things you can’t see have important roles that can make your life idyllic or nightmarish. They are the inner workings that make a house a functional home.

It’s What You Don’t See That Matters…

Your air conditioning system is the most important system in your home. It determines your family’s comfort. If the A/C doesn’t work in an Arizona summer many things can happen, some obvious and some not. Maybe your child (or yourself) cannot sleep in their bedroom. Maybe you have some rooms that are hotter or colder than the others. Maybe your electric bills are high and you don’t understand because the lights are always turned off as you leave the room. Maybe you have flu-like symptoms whose origins are indeterminate. You can tell when something is wrong with the electrical system of your home. A plumbing problem can also be quite obvious as well, but not so with your air conditioning system. Most people think just because there is some air coming out of a ceiling register or grille that the system must be functioning properly. That is not true. We encourage you to get the inside scoop on what makes your air conditioning efficient and this information will give you the ability to look beyond the advertising and double-talk of a salesperson.

OFFICIAL ENERGY STAR PARTNER

If just one household in ten bought ENERGY STAR heating and cooling equipment, the change would keep over 17 billion pounds of pollution out of our air.

The average home spends $1900 on utility bills every year — with more than half going to heating and cooling. Those heating and cooling bills could be cut by as much as 20 percent by replacing old equipment with the ENERGY STAR labeled equivalent.

Heating and cooling costs are a large part of home energy bills, and ENERGY STAR can provide solutions to reduce them. ENERGY STAR labeled heating and cooling equipment such as air-conditioners, heat pumps, and furnaces are from 10-30 percent more efficient than conventional models. Look for the label when replacing equipment.

ENERGY STAR recommends steps for enhancing energy savings. This includes "right-sizing" and proper installation of heating and cooling equipment, as well as sealing the ducts that distribute the heated or cooled air throughout the house. Since a drafty and poorly insulated home can still rob you of well-earned savings, ENERGY STAR also recommends air sealing and insulation levels for your home. Following these recommendations will result in increased comfort and savings for you and your family.

What are the Goals of the ACE Coalition?

Simply put, to educate and inform the consumers of Arizona as a public service.

We want to give you, the consumer, the tools and skills required to ensure your home air conditioning is everything you expect for your family’s comfort. Air conditioning is not just a luxury here in the Copper State; it’s a necessity for both the public at large and our economy. It shouldn’t break your budget to operate, endanger your health or safety, or have expensive and repeated repairs. We seek to:

  • EDUCATE the homeowner about the basics of the A/C system in their house. An informed consumer is a smart consumer.
  • EDUCATE the homeowner with simple tools by which to evaluate their A/C system for a proper installation.
  • EDUCATE Consumers in energy conservation practices
  • EDUCATE homeowners as to organizations and best practices and procedures designed to alleviate and mediate problems should they arise.
  • RESEARCH potential public energy costs-Are YOU paying for the cumulative energy costs of widespread inefficiencies by building more power plants or higher electric rates due to heavy demand?
  • RESEARCH potential design changes and installation practices to balance public costs vs. price of installation vs. operating costs
  • RESEARCH affordability and relevant social impacts
  • RESEARCH best conservation practices for consumers and procurement efficiencies for contractors and developer/builders
  • PROVIDE RESOURCES to building professionals and inspectors with regard to ALL installation standards.
